Best gaming Laptop??

7 posts in this topic

What is the best gaming laptop for around 2k.  I usually go with ASUS ROG.  Should I buy a new one now or is there some new tech coming out and should wait?

needs 1070 or better graphics

i7

solid state

at least 16 gigs ram

Blue-ray reader (or is is better to not get a optical drive and get an external one?)

No real big new tech coming in the near future other than Optane caching and/or if Intel decides to kick things up a notch to fight Ryzen. I've had good luck with recommending MSI gaming laptops but I have purchased and probably will continue to purchase some Asus ROG parts for my desktop, so it's comparable. Blu-ray is only a necessity if you're using it for watching movies I guess? There are externals for like $70 if that's easier.

Nice bonus from ASUS is the included accidental damage protection you get out of the box.

15 or 17"

MSI support response tends to be better than ASUS, and ASUS is pretty cheap when it comes to compensating service techs.

Thanks for the feedback Cel/Maelfus.  Probably going to get one in June or July.
